Building your permission based list is the key component to running an effective email marketing campaign. Having a sign up form on your website is a must. Also, keep in mind there is a right way to ask for an email address on your site. When someone signs up for your list, you have an excellent opportunity to start your relationship on the right track by sending them a thank you note or special gift for joining.
You can now do this automatically using the EnterpriseMailer Subscription Auto Responder.
IMPORTANT: In order to create your auto responder, the list it will be sent to must be created first. View our tutorial on creating a new list, if you need help. In this example, I have created a new list called "website sign ups".
1) Create your Auto-Responder.
The first step is to create a new campaign which will be your auto responder (aka - the email automatically sent to the new subscriber). You create this campaign as you would any other, except you do not schedule it to be sent out. In this example I have created a campaign called "Website Auto Responder".
View our creating an email campaign tutorial if you need further help with this step.
2) Select your List and Auto Responder.
After you have created your auto responder as a campaign, the next step is to generate the code used to add the sign up form to your website and send the auto responder.
Start by choosing the list which will receive the auto responder from the Subscribers & Lists page. After selecting your list, a new tab called -Y´web script¡ will appear in the sub navigation, select this.
Now choose the information you would like to collect on your sign up form (notice I have a merge field called "First Name" here which I will use in my auto responder to customize the salutation). Select your auto responder using the drop down menu in the Options panel and click create code.
You can now place this code on your website and each user who subscribes using the form will receive the auto responder you have selected.
